Will tables and borders survive?

Clean office tables usually convert well when the layout engine is available. Decorative layouts may need a quick tidy in Word. See our tables guide for recovery tips.

My PDF is a scan — will this work?

Image-only scans need OCR first so text is selectable. Without text, Word mostly gets pictures.

Is my file uploaded?

When the layout engine runs, the file is sent briefly for conversion and not kept as an archive. If that path is unavailable, browser fallback keeps text conversion on your device.

Can I edit without converting?

For small changes (names, dates, blackout), Edit PDF is often faster than a full round-trip to Word.

Is there a limit?

25MB and 100 pages.

Fonts look different in Word

Converters substitute fonts when the original is not available. Re-apply your preferred font in Word after conversion.

How to convert PDF to Word (and what to expect)

PDF to Word works best when the PDF contains real text. Layout engines try to keep tables, borders, and images; complex designs may still need a quick tidy in Word. Scanned image-only PDFs need OCR first.

Steps

1. Confirm you can select text in the PDF. If not, run OCR elsewhere first.
2. Convert with SnapPDF — the layout engine preserves tables when available.
3. Open the .docx and check headings, tables, and spacing.
4. Fix any leftover line breaks, then save as Word or export back to PDF.

When to use it

• Editing a policy or handbook that only exists as PDF
• Reusing a table from a circular without retyping

Tips

• Multi-column magazines and heavy graphics convert less cleanly than reports.
• If borders disappear, try again when the layout converter is available, or rebuild the table in Word.
• Keep the original PDF until you finish editing.
